Lot 1073 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1867. NGC graded MS-66 Red & Brown. Well struck with lots of luster and eye appeal. Very few marks, as one would expect for the grade. A very tough date to find this nice.
Estimated Value $1,500-1,750.

Lot 1074 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1867. NGC graded Proof 64 Red. A bright red coloration, but the planchet has some irregular alloy streaks which are visible as a woodgrain appearance on the center of the obverse and the reverse.
Estimated Value $1,250-1,500.

Lot 1075 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1868. NGC graded MS-66 Red & Brown. Well struck with few visible marks or impairments. There is a light dusting of age-old debris on the surface that does not seem to be firmly attached. Perhaps the use of a conservation service would be a wise course of action for the new owner.
Estimated Value $1,200-1,400.

Lot 1076 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1868 170° Rotated Reverse. NGC graded Proof 65 Red & Brown. Medium mirrors with a few light contact marks. About 15% of the 1868 proofs have the rotated reverse such as seen on the present example. Rick Snow says in his "Flying Eagle and Indian Cent Attribution Guide, Vol. 2 1859-1869" that these rotated die pieces are struck with the same reverse die as used in 1869 in a slightly later die state. He assumes that this means that the pieces with this rotation were struck in 1869 or 1870.
Estimated Value $800-900.

Lot 1077 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1869. PCGS graded Proof 65 Red. Choice early date proof. Deep mirrors with slight cameo contrast. Even deep red color and no spots. Color photo.
Estimated Value $3,000-3,500.

Lot 1078 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1869. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Eagle Eye Photo Seal. Gem uncirculated example of this scarce date. About 70% original mint red remains. No spots or blemishes and fully struck. This is a very tough date to find this nice and we expect still competition for this coin.
Estimated Value $1,250-1,500.

Lot 1079 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1869. NGC graded MS-62 Brown. Well struck with nice, brown color and hints of underlying luster.
Estimated Value $300-350.

Lot 1080 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1869, 1869 over 69. FS 008.3. NGC graded MS-65 Red. 95% full red color, the extra 5% consisting of a faint mellowing of the color on the upper half of the reverse. The repunching of the date is clearly visible on the 9 but a little more subtle on the 6. Interesting die cracks on front and back. NGC reports 4 at this grade level, with none finer in the Red category. Color photo.
Estimated Value $5,000-6,000.

Lot 1081 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1869, 1869 over 9. Snow 3. NGC graded MS-64 Red & Brown FS - 008.3. This repunched date was long promoted as an overdate - 9 over 8, but this was disproved by ANACS over 25 years ago. Mottled red and brown color with an average strike. A couple of verdigris spots on the reverse. This is still a very popular variety as it's still being listed in many catalogs and Indian Cent coin albums. It is a good start into the fascinating realm of variety collecting.
Estimated Value $1,100-1,250.

Lot 1082 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1870. Snow-24, FND-008. NGC graded MS-66 Red & Brown. A strong doubled die with doubling on the left side of the wreath, shield lines, and ON and CE in ONE CENT. A gem near full red piece with no spots or problems. By far the finest known for the variety. The next highest grade known is MS-63RB.
Estimated Value $2,000-2,500.

Lot 1083 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1870. NGC graded MS-65 Red & Brown. About 50% original mint red. Well struck with good luster. One contact mark is visible on the obverse below the Indian's eye.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,250.

Lot 1084 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1870. PCGS graded Proof 65 Red & Brown. Eagle Eye Photo Seal. Well struck with about 80% original mint red remaining. It has medium mirrors, which is typical of this issue. The reverse die exhibits numerous die polishing lines, which again, are normally found on this date. A very attractive coin for the issue.
Estimated Value $800-900.

Lot 1085 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1871 Snow- PR4, 71 touch. NGC graded Proof 65 Red & Brown. Deep mahogany in color. Spot free surfaces. Light die polish lines on both sides. On 1871 proofs, the date is found with the 71 apart, 71 almost touching and the 71 firmly touching. This example is the firmly touching style, which is much rarer than the others. In fact, this is the first one that has been recorded. The first digit in the date is also repunched.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,250.

Lot 1086 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1871. ANACS graded MS-60 Brown. A full conversion of the original mint red to a glossy, chestnut brown.
Estimated Value $275-300.

Lot 1087 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1872. NGC graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Deep mahogany color. Average strike and luster. A bit weak on the last digit of the date, probably due to debris clogging the die. This is a very tough date to acquire in gem uncirculated condition.
Estimated Value $2,750-3,000.

Lot 1088 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1872. NGC graded Proof 65 Red & Brown. Medium mirrors with no spots or distracting marks. Very close to full red. The reverse die has an anomaly on the T in CENT. The right pennant is bulging much higher than the rest of the letters. This reverse is found on many proofs from 1872 through 1877.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,250.

Lot 1089 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1873 Open 3. Snow-6. NGC graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Glossy red and brown toning. Well struck with good cartwheel luster. A tough date in gem uncirculated condition. This is an interesting variety with a misplaced 3 punched into the first pearl, and another one visible under the bust truncation. A popular variety.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,250.

Lot 1090 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1873. NGC graded Proof 65 Brown. Medium mirrors and a sharp strike. The surfaces exhibit a woodgrain toning with no spots or other problems. Closed 3, as are all proofs.
Estimated Value $700-800.

Lot 1091 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1873. Closed 3. NGC graded MS-64 Red & Brown. Average strike with about 30% mint red remaining. Slight weakness noted on the feathertips and the shield. This is scarcer than the Open 3 variety.
Estimated Value $500-600.

Lot 1092 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1873. Doubled "LIBERTY", Snow 1. NGC graded Fine-15 Brown. The king of Indian Cent varieties. This is the most sought after variety in the series. Doubling is evident on LIBERTY the Indians eye, nose, lips and the final "S" in STATES. A great opportunity to acquire a key rarity at an affordable price.
Estimated Value $600-800.

Lot 1093 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1874. NGC graded MS-65 Red. Well struck with full diamonds and feather tips. Bright fresh mint red color with no spots or distractions.
Estimated Value $2,250-2,500.

Lot 1094 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1874. PCGS graded Proof 65 Red. From an original mintage of approximately. 700. Well struck with a slight wood grain effect caused by improper alloy mix. This has the same reverse die as seen on the 1872 earlier in the sale with the bulging T. The apparent repunching on the 4 is actually a defective digit punch and is seen on all proof 1874's.
Estimated Value $2,000-2,250.

Lot 1095 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1874. NGC graded MS-66 Red & Brown. A 50/50 mix of red and brown. Struck from late die state dies. There are heavy flow lines and a die crack which runs through the date. There are no marks to speak of, hence the grade.
Estimated Value $800-1,000.
