McCall, Robert (b.
1919). Official NASA artist. His renderings of actual space advances and
imaginative portrayals of our possible future have captured the public's
imagination for almost 40 years.
Signatures ("Robert F.
McCall"). Lot of five signed and matted color reproductions, all
inscribed with the date "11-24-99." Works include a portrait
entitled "Neil Armstrong", and four futuristic views of space travel. Sizes
range from 14 x 11" to 13¾ x 9½." All of the items are in fine
condition.

Lot 292
Miró, Joan
(1893-1983). Spanish Surrealist artist known for creating vivid unreal
worlds of flatly abstract, biomorphic figures juxtaposed against limitless
landscapes. Though he is oft described as an abstract painter, Miró
strictly denied the association, stating, "For me, a form is never
something abstract; it is always a sign of something. It is always a man, a
bird, or something else. For me painting is never form for form's sake".
Signature ("Miro"). One page, 8½ x 11", n.p., n.d. On
a color reproduction of one of his works. In pencil. Matted for an overall
size of 11½ x 14½". In very fine condition.
Here,
Miró signs one of his colorful works of fanciful shapes and
sparkling colors -- choosing an orange-red, deep yellow, lime green, and
cadet blue to emphasize the swirls and forms of this composition.

Picasso, Pablo
(1881-1973). Painter, sculptor, and ceramicist.The son of an art
professor, the young Picasso displayed his talent early in life, and by age
14 was enrolled in professional art schools, creating masterpieces. After
moving to Paris, his work began to reflect the mood of the city, thereby
spurring his blue and rose periods. However it was the influences of
Iberian and African art that inspired the most prolific painting of this
century, "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon", which began the Cubist movement.
Autograph Note Signed ("Picasso"). In Spanish. On a single,
octavo sheet, n.p., July 12, 1968. In blue ink. Left edge is rough, soft
crease at lower right, toning along edges. Signature is clean and bold. In
very good condition.
With simplicity, the artist signs "Su amigo"
(your friend), with his name.

Picasso, Pablo. Cut
Signature ("Picasso"). On a single, duodecimo sheet, n.p.,
n.d. In green crayon. Matted with a printed reproduction of his famous
composition entitled "La Vie" for an overall size of 10 x 16½".
There is very faint soiling to the line below the artist's name. Otherwise
in very good condition.
At the peak of his Blue Period, sparked by
the suicide of his dear friend Carlos Casagemas, Picasso painted this
revealing, thematically complex piece. Here, we offer a colorful autograph
of the influential artist, accompanied by a reproduction of the early
masterpiece.

Picasso, Pablo.
Signature ("Picasso"). One page, 5 x 1¼", n.p.,
n.d. On the June 26, 1950 edition of Time Magazine. In blue and red
crayon. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Christophe
Stickel Autographs. The lower right corner which Picasso has signed has
been tipped onto a complete edition of the magazine, and adhesive from
mailing label remains at lower left corner. Signature is clear and
bold.
Just subsequent to the birth of his daughter Paloma, this
edition of Time Magazine features a five page article on Picasso, including
several color images of his works, a photograph of his children, and an
update on such contemporaries as Chagall, Léger, Braques, Derain,
and de Vlaminck. On the cover, Picasso's "Remembrances toasted on grills on
blue" has been reproduced.

Ruscha, Edward (b.
1937) American "Pop" artist whose later works have transcended labels. His
most recognized works are images of signs and logos and his colorful word
paintings.
Signatures ("Ed Ruscha"). A lot of four signed
photographic prints of Ruscha works "Annie," "Hit Record," "Made in USA,"
and "Soup." All of the pieces have been matted to sizes ranging from
11½ x 9½" to 10½ x 11¾." All of the pieces are
in fine condition.

Schulz, Charles M
(1922-2000). Most widely syndicated cartoonist, best known for the
lovable "Peanuts" strip. Based on characters in his own life, Schulz
sketched and wrote each cartoon which ran in newspapers worldwide for over
50 years. The popular characters -- Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, and Charlie Brown
-- have permeated popular culture and coined such phrases as "good grief"
and "security blanket".
Signed Book. Snoopy and the Red
Baron. New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1966, 64 pages, 5½
x 8½". Hard bound, housed in slipcase. Inscribed on front free
end-paper. Light scuffing to upper and lower edges. In very good condition
overall.
As Charles Schulz's first full-length novel, the lovable
Snoopy fights the Red Baron while flying over France in World War One.

Stella and Vasarely.
Signatures. In this lot of six, we offer three printed photographic
reproductions by minimalist painter and sculptor Frank Stella and
three prints signed by abstract painter Victor Vasarely. Of the
Stella pieces, a "Wake Island Rail" print has been matted with a cut
signature, while the prints of "Kandinsky" and "Untitled" are signed --
"Untitled" including the inscription "Cheers." The Vasarely works
included are "ReyTey," "Blue Illusion" and "Feny." All of the items have
been matted and range in size from 9½ x 9¼" to 13½ x
11." All of the items in this lot are in very good to fine condition.

Tiffany, Charles Lewis
(1812-1902) American jeweler and luxury goods importer, he founded what
later became Tiffany & Co. in 1837. During the Civil War, Tiffany turned
most of his company's production to the manufacture of medals, swords and
other war materials. After the War, the success of the store in New York
led to the opening of European branches in London and Geneva. Tiffany was
succeeded at the firm by his son Louis Comfort Tiffany.
Signed
Photograph ("C.L. Tiffany"). Sepia-toned, 4¼ x 6½", New
York, February 15, 1892. Inscribed in black ink, "Feby 15th 1892 / My
eightieth birthday / CL Tiffany." The signature is legible and
complete, however when originally signed there was some skipping and the
ink on the signature is uneven. Minor foxing over the portrait and a chip
on the white border. Else, very good condition.
The scion of the
Tiffany family is very distinguished in this beautiful right profile, bust
portrait.

Wesselman, Tom and
Robert Indiana. Signatures. This lot of twelve signatures features two
artists whose strong graphic presentations have made their work instantly
recognizable. We offer three matted and signed Tom Wesselman's
prints, a cut signature matted with a print, and a signed First Day Cover
honoring John Trumbull. Robert Indiana's signature and an Autograph
Note (complete with his "LOVE" stamp) are matted with a print of "Mother
and Father." We also offer six signed color reproductions of Indiana's
work, also including a personal note from the artist. The slick surface of
the loose prints makes the inscription and signatures rather fragile but
they are currently intact. All of the items are in fine condition.

West, Benjamin
(1738-1820) American-born painter who was a founder of the Royal
Academy (1768). His paintings of historical, religious, and mythological
subjects had a profound influence on the development of historical painting
in Britain and the United States.
Signature ("Benjamin West").
One page, 3½ x ¾," n.p., n.d. In black ink. Signature
concludes the closing "Yours most sincerely." One repaired tear at
the left does not affect the signature, which has been matted with West's
1770 "Self-Portrait." Included in this lot is a First Day Cover
commemorating West, which has been signed by American artist Paul
Cadmus. The overall condition is fair to good.

19th Century Artists.
Signatures. Albert Bierstadt, Rosa Bonheur, Lawrence Alma-Tadema,
Laura Alma-Tadema and Lord Frederic Leighton are featured in
this lot of three. The Alma-Tadema signatures are matted back to back with
the Leighton signature accompanied by Alma-Tadema's "Armorer's Shop in
Ancient Rome" on one side and "Atalanta" by Leighton on the other. Rosa
Bonheur's signature with the French inscription: "On behalf of
Mademoiselle R. Bonheur," is matted with "Gathering for the Hunt"
accompanied by a carte de visite of the artist. Albert Bierstadt's
signature and "Sincerely Yours" is matted with the print "The
Emerald Pool." Sizes range from 10½ x 12" to 14 x 17" and condition
range from very good to fine.

Abstract Expressionism.
Signatures. A lot of eight, featuring signatures matted with color
reproductions from seven notable Abstract Expressionism artists including
Willem De Kooning, Hans Hoffman, Adolph Gottlieb, Robert Motherwell

Stamos. All of the items have been matted and sizes range from
8½ x 13" to 10¼ x 16." All of the items are in very good to
fine condition.
Considered the first American art movement of
international significance, Abstract Expressionism is a form of art in
which the artist uses only form and color to express himself.

signatures on this First Day Cover including Norman Rockwell,

truly yours" appears above signature, which has been matted with a copy
of a Christy illustration. Some mounting residue is visible on the verso,
but otherwise the piece is in very good condition. 4. Flagg, James
Montgomery (1877-1960) ("J Montgomery Flagg"). One page, quarto,
n.p., September 24, 1919. In black ink. Letter to Mr. Taggart is matted
behind a copy of Flagg's "I Want You" and signature and letter closing
"Yours trul" are presented below print in a 5½ x 2½"
square. There is some age toning and a faint vertical crease, otherwise the
piece is in very good condition.

Signatures. In this lot of five, we offer the signatures of five
artists who used their own points of view to create strong and indelible
images of American life throughout the 20th Century: Thomas Hart Benton,
Jacob Lawrence, George W. Bellows, William Gropper and Will
Barnett. Signatures been matted with color reproductions of the
artists' best known works, including Benton's "Back Him Up" and Bellows'
"The Prizefight." The Lawrence signature is directly on a mounted
reproduction from his "Migration" series. All of the items are in very good

Painters. Signatures. Lot of eight signatures from four great American
painters who worked within and revolutionized the realist/social realist
movements including the likes of Raphael Soyer, Isabel Bishop, Jack
Levine, David Levine and Harvey Dinnerstein. Soyer's signature
appears on a First Day Cover honoring the Chagall window at the UN and
color reproductions of "Lexington Avenue Express," "Man" and "Gregory
Corso." Bishop's signature is matted with the print "Two Girls."
Dinnerstein's signature appears on "The Wide Swing." Jack Levine pens his
name on a print of "Birmingham '63." David Levine has signed "Crowd at
Ebbets Field" and included a study for the painting, with his notes. All of
the prints have been matted and are in fine condition.

Artist Ephemera - An
Eclectic Collection. This grouping of art related material includes a
Typed Letter Signed by architect Walter Gropius inviting an admirer
to one of his homes; a Typed Letter Signed by cartoonist Walter
Lantz (written to a new mother who named her son after Lantz) to which
he also adds a sketch of "Woody Woodpecker"; an Inscribed Photo Signed by
Walter Lantz; and a printed sketch of "Woody Woodpecker" colored in crayon
that has been inscribed by Walter Lantz; and three visiting cards signed by
artist James Montgomery Flagg, sculptor of the Statue of Liberty
Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi and "Blondie" cartoonist Dean
Young. The Gropius letter is lightly toned with a few soft creases and
two small tears at the upper left. Otherwise the lot is in very good
condition overall.

reproduction of "Still Life--Fast Moving" and John Alexander's signature
card features a drawing. All other signatures appear at the bottom of a

Surrealism's
fantastic visual imagery, drawn from the subconscious and purposely free
