Superlative 1927-D Buffalo Nickel

Lot 1276 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1927-D. PCGS graded MS-65. Not just a Gem, but a fully struck Gem, which is quite atypical for a 1927-D Buffalo Nickel. This one also boasts a lovely layer of rose-colored iridescence on both sides. The 1927-D Nickel hits a rather solid ceiling at the MS-65 level -- PCGS reports 42 in that grade, with none finer. In fact, of all the regular issue Buffalo Nickels, only the 1926-S, 1927-D, and 1927-S are unknown in PCGS MS-66 (or better) holders. Housed in an older, green-label PCGS holder, offering the possibility of an upgrade.
Estimated Value $5,000-6,000.

Estimated Value $500-600.

Lot 1278 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1927-S. PCGS graded MS-64. Attractive lilac and golden toning. This is a very rare date in grades of MS-64 and higher. The PCGS-graded population is 161 at this level, with only 18 higher (all MS-65).
Estimated Value $2,000-2,500.

Lot 1279 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1928. NGC graded MS-66. Wonderful, steel-silver color highlighted by faint wisps of golden color near the rims. Scattered, microscopic flyspecks on both sides. NGC reports 31 coin in this grade with only 4 higher (all MS-67).
Estimated Value $450-500.

Lot 1280 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1928-D. NGC graded MS-65. Nice lilac and golden toning. Some small oxidation spots on the reverse which NGC's conservation service should be able to remove. NGC reports 90 at this grade level with 3 higher (all MS-66). Housed in an old holder.
Estimated Value $425-475.
