1894. Doubled date. Snow 1. NGC graded MS-63 Red & Brown. One of the most popular varieties in the Indian Head Cent series. The date was first punched in to high and then corrected. Very elusive in mint state. This piece exhibits a few scattered marks and spots as expected for the grade. About 75% original red remains.
Estimated Value $500-750.

1897. NGC graded Proof 67 Red & Brown. A very choice example. Deep mirrors give a slight cameo contrast. Multi-colored toning on both sides give superb eye appeal. The obverse is mostly gold with deepening color shifting to vivid purple. The reverse features more purple along with some rose and emerald in the fields. The wreath is a vivid rose color on the right oak leaves with purple on the olive leaves near the base and left oak leaves. Fascinating. Color photo.
Estimated Value $1,500-1,750.

Lot 1158 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version

1899. PCGS graded Proof 66 Red. This is a beautiful deep mirror gem. The fields exhibit an extensive "orange peel" look that is seen only on the earliest die state pieces. When the die is polished in its softened state it takes on a much deeper polish. Upon hardening the metal contracts slightly making the once mirrored field a bit wavy, similar to the ripples on an orange peel.
Estimated Value $2,500-2,750.

1900. NGC graded MS-67 Red. Superb! Here is a real gem without any noticeable marks or blemishes. Although this date is lumped into the common date category by price editors, it actually is a very tough date in high grade. That aside, any Indian Cent in this grade is rare. We expect to see spirited bidding for this coin. 2 graded by NGC, none higher. PCGS has 1 other graded, none higher..
Estimated Value $3,000-3,500.

Lot 1166 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version

Lot 1169 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version

A few scattered flyspecks are noted on the obverse, but only under magnification. Small whitish spot at RI of AMERICA, perhaps the reason this isn't a 67.
Estimated Value $700-800.
