Prooflike 1835 Quarter Eagle

Lot 863 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1835. NGC graded MS-63. Lovely, greenish gold with considerable reflective, prooflike tendencies. The devices are lightly frosted, creating an attractive cameo contrast. Somewhat weak at the centers on both sides. A very scarce die variety that uses the same reverse used to strike Proof Quarter Eagles of this year (close AM and broken M in AMERICA)! This may, in fact, be a poorly produced Proof. In circulation strike format, NGC has graded only 11 at this level, with 4 higher (all MS-64). Color photo.
Estimated Value $5,000-5,500.

1836. Block 8. NGC graded AU-55. Rich, deep, coppery toning covers both sides. Nicely struck and fully detailed except on the very highest points, where a touch of wear has changed the color only slightly. A very acceptable example of this short-lived type.
Estimated Value $550-650.

Beautiful 1836 Classic Head $2.50

Lot 865 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1836. Script 8. PCGS graded MS-64. A typical strike for this year, strong about the borders and stars with some softness in the centers on both sides. Intense frosty mint luster adds to its appeal and all is lightly toned. We note several interesting die cracks on the obverse. A wonderful high grade example for the date and the Classic Head design type. Population of 25, only 1 higher by a point.
Estimated Value $9,000-11,000.

High Grade 1839-C Classic Head $2.50

Lot 866 Click on photo for enlarged version Click on photo for enlarged version
1839-C. PCGS graded AU-55. Very well struck, sharp detail throughout with subdue mint luster. PCGS reports only 8 in this grade with 2 higher.
Estimated Value $5,000-5,750.
