Lot 2572
1891-CC. VAM-3, R-4.
MS-60. Liberty's face has been carefully buffed to reduce a reeding
mark, and this scarcely shows. Clean otherwise, bright luster and well struck.
Estimated Value $150-175.
Lot 2573
1891-CC. VAM-3, R-4.
MS-60. Flashy and bright, with clean surfaces, but we note the
obverse rim has two very minor areas that have been filed, probably to remove
trivial ticks from handling.
Estimated Value $150-175.
Lot 2574
1891-CC. (5 pieces).
These all grade MS-60. Each is the VAM-3, R-4 "Spitting Eagle"
variety. A great little group to promote. Lot of 5 coins.
Estimated Value
$900-1,000.
Lot 2575
1891-S Redfield holder.
MS-63. Mounted in Paramount's Redfield dollar holder with their
grade of MS-65. Gold and green toning about the obverse and reverse periphery.
Estimated Value $100-150.
Lot 2576
1892. Proof 63.
Toned a medium steel gray with most of the proof surface intact despite a
light cleaning. Light hairlines are noted, as nearly always seen on these.
Early proofs like this are always popular with collectors, especially this
early 90s date. Pleasing gold and blue toning on both sides, and well preserved
for a choice coin.
Estimated Value $800-900.
Lot 2577
1892. MS-63.
Light gold toning and quite pretty for the grade, with flashy luster and
clean surfaces.
Estimated Value $200-250.
Lot 2578
1892-CC. PCGS
graded MS-63. Flashy and bright for this date, with no signs of toning yet
present. Well struck and decent for the grade. Always in demand, and scarce
this nice. We note the base of the 2 is filled in.
Estimated Value
$500-600.
Lot 2579
1892-CC. MS-63.
This one is semi prooflike, with deep frost on the devices and reflective
fields. We note a minor spot in the lower hair where there was a small
disturbance.
Estimated Value $500-600.
Lot 2580
1892-O. PCGS graded
MS-62. Brilliant luster and well struck for the date. Moderate handling
from bag storage. Completely untoned.
Estimated Value $90-110.
Lot 2581
1892-S. PCGS graded
AU-58. One of the major rarities of the Morgan dollar series, the 1892-S
deserves all the attention it gets and then some. We note PCGS has graded only
55 coins in all the various grades of mint state for the date. Even in AU-58
this coin is prohibitively rare with a scant 38 graded this high by PCGS. For
some reason, these all entered circulation, and were never found in bag
quantities as seen on so many other dates of Morgan Silver dollars. This
particular coin is bright with a trace of haze, and close examination will
notice a series of tiny ticks on Liberty's cheek. A classic rarity and this one
would fit nicely in a mint state date set.
Estimated Value $2,500-UP.
Lot 2582
1893. PCGS graded
Proof 67 Cameo. This is the finest Cameo example graded by PCGS, and we
note that they have graded only 1 Deep Cameo, which is also PR-67 of this date.
A magnificent example of the coiner's art. The devices are piled high with
winter frost, while the mirror fields seem miles away. Toned with a delicate
gold hue around the periphery, the centers remain stark and white. Naturally,
the surfaces approach perfection, and show no problems or signs of contact. In
the last few years these cameo and deep cameo coins have started to show up at
the grading services now that they are designating them as such. It is
important to understand that only a handful, if any, are produced each year as
the dies were specially prepared for proof coins. Apparently these cameo coins
are amongst the first struck, when the dies have the most polish on the fields
and have just been acid dipped to produce the frosty devices. As more coins are
struck, the frost is not as high, and the dies soon produce the more "normal"
appearing proofs. For now, the cameo and deep cameo proofs don't seem to bring
enough of a premium, given their beauty and rarity. If you want just a single
example, we would recommend this coin as it possesses not only cameo frost, but
nearly perfect surfaces too.
Estimated Value $6,500-7,500.
Lot 2583
1893. PCGS graded
MS-64. Great color and surfaces for the grade, one wonders why this one
wasn't graded higher. In an old green insert PCGS holder.
Estimated Value
$1,000-UP.
Lot 2584
1893. AU-50.
This one briefly circulated, a scarce date in high grades.
Estimated
Value $150-170.
Lot 2585
1893-CC. PCGS
graded MS-63. Scarce this nice, with few found that even qualify in choice
grades. Bright luster on the obverse, the reverse slightly prooflike. One for
the date specialist who needs this important final year of issue of the "CC"
coinage.
Estimated Value $2,500-3,000.
Lot 2586
1893-O. MS-60.
A bright and flashy example for the collector, this one boasts strong
luster and a typical strike, with slight weakness on the hair over Liberty's
ear. Minimal bagmarks for the grade, but there are some minor hairlines. Always
in demand for the rare date and mint.
Estimated Value $1,100-1,300.
Lot 2587
1894-O. EF-40.
This one has been cleaned, and shows some wear, a scarce date though.
Estimated Value $40-45.
Lot 2588
1894-S. PCGS graded
MS-64. A flashy bright example of this semi-key date. The strike is sharp
and we note light haze and the coin is essentially untoned. Scarce enough this
nice, and downright rare any better, and a lot more expensive too!
Estimated Value $800-1,000.
Lot 2589
1894-S. MS-60.
This one has been cleaned in the past, but should retone in time.
Estimated Value $300-350.
Lot 2590
1894-S. MS-60.
Some bagmarks as expected for the grade, but bright and lustrous.
Estimated Value $300-375.
Lot 2591
1895-O. AU-53.
A rare date that is always in demand even in circulated grades. The fields
have some luster, and the strike is fairly strong. Minimal handling marks, and
pleasing for the grade.
Estimated Value $600-700.
Lot 2592
1895-O. AU-53.
This one circulated briefly before being saved for the rare date that it
is. Traces of luster, and typical handling marks, but the strike is strong.
Always in demand by date collectors.
Estimated Value $600-700.
Lot 2593
1895-O. PCGS graded
AU-50. A rare date that is downright hard to find at all, especially in AU
or better grades. This particular one shows normal bagmarks but there are still
traces of luster near the devices. We note a touch of gold on the obverse,
while the reverse more gold peripheral toning with blue at the extreme edge in
the dentils.
Estimated Value $600-700.
Lot 2594
1895-S. PCGS graded
MS-64 Premium Quality. White and untoned with a trace of cloudy toning on
both sides. A rare date in this grade, and always in feverish demand by Morgan
dollar specialists. This one has just minor scuffs, and no bagmarks worth
describing, and Liberty's face is particularly nice. As to the strike, it is
decent for this date, without the usual weakness on the hair over Liberty's ear
and reasonable separation on the breast too.
Estimated Value $4,000-5,000.
Lot 2595
1895-S. MS-63+.
A very choice coin that boasts prooflike mirror fields and minimal signs of
contact. A few faint hairlines can be seen, but they are expected for this and
virtually every grade, especially on these super delicate mirror fields.
Liberty's face is very clean as well, and this coin would be perfect to display
in an album or have certified for your collection. Light golden silver in
color, and appealing.
Estimated Value $3,000-3,500.
Lot 2596
1895-S. VAM-3, Rarity-5.
PCGS graded AU-50. This is the scarce S over S with the mint mark
repunched and tilted well to the left and above the primary S. As noted in the
Van Allen Mallis reference, this reverse die displays the largest shift of S
mint mark known for Morgan dollars. Light toning on the obverse, lustrous and
lightly circulated. An opportunity for the specialist.
Estimated Value
$600-650.
Lot 2597
1896 (7 pieces), 1897 (4
pieces) and 1898 (9 pieces). This roll grades mostly uncirculated.
One of the 1897 and 2 of the 1898 show buffing on the face, the balance are
typical roll coins. Lot of 20 coins.
Estimated Value $350-400.
