Lot 2033
1795, LM-10, V-4a, R-3.
PCGS graded MS-65. Fiery deep orange gold toning with glowing luster
in the fields fading to blue tones at the periphery. Boldly struck, with
excellent details on Liberty's hair and the eagle's wing feathers. This one is
a later die state with the familiar rim break above TY on the obverse, and the
obverse die was lapped before this one was coined, making the obverse stars
appear spindly. Beneath the dark gold and blue toning we see a few adjustment
marks on Liberty's chin and neck, as well as the upper left obverse rim, but
these are generally light and not too distracting. An important type coin, the
flowing hair design lasted only two short years, and these were coined in very
limited numbers. PCGS has graded 10 this high of the date, and just 5 higher,
all MS-66 above. If you demand gem coins for your type set, then here is a
rarity that will prove to be a major acquisition. In PCGS holder number
10002688.
Estimated Value $20,000-25,000.
