Kershaw, Joseph Brevard.
Head and shoulders uniformed carte de visite, general's collar visible.
Image mounted in an old cdv album page, matted and framed to 7½ x 9".

Handsome presentation of a dashing
portrait.

Lot 1598
Lamb, Jonathan J.
Clipped signature and rank, wardate ("J.J. Lamb Col."). 3½ x
2½" slip, January 19, 1864. Blue paper, presumably clipped from an
order. Includes endorsement "Approved & forwarded" above signature and
"comd 4th & 5th Tenn Inf." below. Text below signature section indicates
the document would be sent from "HeadQuarters Strahls Brig". Very good
condition.
Lamb, renowned for his courage, commanded the combined 4th
and 5th Tennessee regiments, which had been consolidated after heavy losses at
Murfreesboro, until he was mortally wounded at Ellsbury Ridge, Georgia in May
1864. This is a unique piece and, although we do wish the signature had not
been clipped from the order, it is nonetheless a very desirable signature.
Estimated Value $200-300.
Lot 1599
Lane, James Henry.
Cabinet size print, seated chest portrait in uniform. Lane is pictured in
his general's uniform, with his right hand in his jacket. A few minor
imperfections in the plate; minor nicks and creasing at edges; faint toning at
bottom edge, else, very good condition.
A striking portrait matted and
framed to 9¼ x 10".
Estimated Value $250-350.
Lot 1600
Lawton, Alexander Robert.
Clipped signature and rank mounted with a uniformed bust portrait carte de
visite. The signature and rank ("A R Lawton Q.M. Genl") appear after a
letter's closing ("Very Respectfully"), making clear this signature is
part of a larger document. The fragment appears to have been mounted on a card,
as there is stock visible through three small holes. One vertical crease
through the "La"; toning to the edges, as well as a darker stain and
some show-through of text. The cdv is mounted on an ivory card with a double
line border and is toned throughout with very minor, scattered foxing; there
are two shallow stains at the top edge of the card and a very faint penciled ID
in the field below the portrait. Overall the individual pieces are just in good
condition, but the beautiful presentation compliments them to great effect.
Estimated Value $700-800.
Lot 1601
Lee, Fitzhugh.
Signature ("Fitzhugh Lee") matted and framed to 8 ½ x
8½". There is a minor area of discoloration at the right edge of the

17½ x 17". There is a small area of discoloration on the top left corner
of the image; scattered tiny chips and some soil; one very faint 1" long red

TLS ("Fitzhugh Lee"). Quarto,
Glasgow, Virginia, February 10, 1891. On Rockbridge Company letterhead. To
Henry Lamb, Esq. Transmittal folds and minor toning to the edges. Very good
condition. Lee's letter expresses regrets that due to the fact that his company
duties are "so exacting, constant and pressing" that he would be unable to
company with Lamb's request to "write an account of a battle". Presumably Mr.
Lamb was seeking a first person account from one of the most respected
Confederate generals.

Treasury of the Confederate States. Partially printed, accomplished in
manuscript. One page, 8¼ x 5", Richmond, May 19, 1862. Countersigned
by E.C. Elmore, Treasurer to the Confederate States and Robert Tyler, Register

nicks and toning at edges; overall, good condition. Matted and framed with a
copy of a cdv of Memminger to 13 ½x 15½".
The printed
transfer draft offered here can be viewed as a relic of the financial
difficulties plaguing the Confederacy (for which Memminger was largely blamed)
and we are delighted to offer such a unique piece.
Estimated Value
$650-750.

paper at center fold at bottom edge; nicks and chips at edges; some edge
separation at transmittal folds; 1" tear at top edge; center shows another
assignment written lengthwise through the text of the special order, but it
does not obscure the document and the signature is unaffected. Overall, fair
condition. Framed and matted with a cdv copy to 13 x 16½".
Confederate medical documents of any kind are very desirable and a
piece signed by the respected Surgeon General Moore on his office stationery is
a rare find, indeed.

Lot 1621
[Pelham, John]. Two
cartes de visite matted and framed to 12½ x 9", with glass on the back,
leaving backmarks visible. The first cdv is a bust portrait of John Pelham,
mounted on an ivory card with a double line border, published by Anthony. The
second cdv is a scene in a union camp from Brady's Album Gallery, No. 417,
"12lb Howitzer, captured by 17th Regt. N.Y.V." There is minor toning to both
pieces, but they are in otherwise very good condition.
Linking Pelham
the artillery officer with a piece of equipment captured from a compatriots

troops at the Battle of Hanover Court House), this is a wonderful memoriam to
the heroic young soldier.
Estimated Value $1,250-1,500.

Point, this is a wonderful piece.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,500.
