"We were victorious! We were
Gallant! and we got the job done! I dropped the bomb at precisely 08:15 E
Pacific Time. The bomb detonated one minute later at 08:16 Hrs. Japan
surrendered 9 days later saving nearly 250,000 of our service men. Tom Ferebee
-- Bombardier. 6 Aug. 1945".
Fine. Also enclosed is a
facsimile ALS in which he vehemently refuses a paid request for his story. This
and another enclosed facsimile state that he will only sign photos with his
name, title and date of dropping the bomb. "I made a mistake adding things
and will not do it again." This inscribed photo is an extremely rare piece.
The bombing of Hiroshima was voted the most historic event of the 20th century
by TIME magazine.
