Inscribed on verso, "Gratefully acknowledging the receipt of mf 1000 from Mr. Soergel, at the request of Mr. Simrock. J. Brahms. / Vienna / April 8, 1893." Punch holes in upper corners. Simrock was Brahms' publisher.
