Lot 69
Bidault, Georges. (1899-1983) French
Statesman and Prime Minister. Member of the French Resistance movement during
World War II. Inscribed Visiting Card Signed. 5 x 4", on white card
stock. Inscribed in French, "Paris , January 23, 1975,/ Dear Mr. Alan Fox,/
This is a photograph that is roughly twenty years old. Today I have large
glasses and white hair and can't go outside to take a picture of those
embellishments. I ask you then to be content with the face of my first worries,
of my first conferences and my first hopes. I wish you to keep yourself from
the illusions that reigned and to stay nevertheless faithful to the idea of
Europe and our threatened civilization. The attitude of my country toward the
USA is unbearable for a French resistence [member] like me, who knew 1944
closely. May God protect you. Bidault."
Estimated Value $175-225.
