Lot 1070
American Revolution. Iconography. Fifty-eight steel-engraved prints depicting famous battles and scenes from the American Revolutionary War, The French-Indian War, The Civil War, The Mexican War, and The War of 1812. Fifty-four of the steel-engravings are large, 11½ x 8½", on card stock, printed by Virtue & Yorston, New York, and feature famous American Generals in victory and defeat, including Generals Scott, Stark, Zachary Taylor, Commodore Perry, Major Dix, and General George Washington, in a representation that seems incongruous in the light of history, raising the British flag at Fort Du Quesne. Historic battles, sieges and charges, Indian heroes, and the military men and women that fought our wars are among the vivid images depicted. Fine. Some of the prints have occasional stains, but the majority are in fine condition.
Estimated Value $250-UP.
