Claudius, 41-54 AD. Gold Aureus (7.7g). Rome mint, struck 41-42 AD. Laureate head right. Reverse: Inscription EX SC, OB CIVES, SERVATOS, in three lines in oak wreath. RIC 5; BMC 3. Well centered, with boldly struck portrait and considerable residual luster. Rare! Light scrape on reverse at first line of inscription. Superb Extremely Fine. A fabulous portrait piece.
